e.g. if the interval rate is 192 per quart then

1/16 is approx dur=0000.00.047

2/16 dur=0000.00.095

3/16 dur=0000.00.143

Roughly long decay on the 303 is just over 1/32 of a note and no where near 1/16 so for a

1/16 note substitute just over half e.g. 1/16 = .047 so use 1/32 =.023 we usually use .027 to .035 for long decay and .020 for short decay or snappy effect.

If you attempt to play about with the cv gate 10 turn trim pots to tune the voltage out then always use an RS COMPS TRIM POT SCREWDRIVER as these things bust up when using a normal screwdriver.

Midi keyboard to cv control

e.g. sh09 to 303 retro

If you have a midi 303 then a keyboard can be used to control the 303.

The best keyboards are those with variable controllers or data slides.

Jx3p with mod and data slide (omni on synth) (causes sysex disturbance and tends to reset other Roland 83/84 synths drums)

Dx7 mktwo (programmable controllers)

Connect 303 via sync24.connect keyboard via midi to the same midi channel as the 303 aux controllers (so as there is no midi data flowing round the whole system only connect the keyboard midi out to the in of the cv converter) the sync keeps time with other instruments. Nominate controllers to that of your keyboard see controller list.

Now as the pattern or track plays control pitchbend cof slide and accent from your keyboard.

If you have a keyboard that transmits omni off/poly chose the cv midi channel (same on cv channel a and b) and match the controllers to that sent by the sequencer e.g. program the controllers on the keyboard (dx7 mk2) .you now have control from two sources (keyboard not connected in the mix unless you want discordant sounds).

Total control includes pitchbend, duration, 5 octaves, cut off freq, accent, slide and sync divide.

Usually worth taping or sampling (even if you are recording to the sequencer you cant record the output from the 303) so sample.

Use sync 24 for original TB303 and use cv out to retro or 1 volt octave analogue, one left one right and crossover occasionally for stereo effects e.g. one with fx one dry.

Some sequencers are only active in channel 1 for midi loops e.g. keyboard out to sequencer in and then sequencer out back to keyboard, so this channel may have to be used for pitchbend and defined controllers. Make sure you filter the in channel of the keyboard so that the loop doesn’t keep coming round e.g. use pocket filter (anatek) to take out note / system / real/program (juno106) / touch / controller / bend I all (to make omni on respond to just one channel) jx3p or sx240 etc.
