Stick to 16 step 4 on the floor its all you need.

To trigger sync from the sequencer you usually have to be on the entry level screen (music x Amiga) in Cakewalk and Cubase the sync has to be turned on in the midi filter page and set to on/off continue and a sync rate of 24 frames. Then return after storing to front screen.

the internal tempo of the 303 is 40 bpm to 300 bpm and by using sync from a sequencer can range from 10 bpm to 300 + .

when using sync before starting press reset clear to set 303 at start of track or pattern also try to keep 1a on groups 1,2,3,IV CLEAR e.g. just 16 rests. this allows for breaks in tracks so other instruments can be used.

MIDI CONTROL

with a 5 socket retrofit you get control of note, duration (decay), pitch bend (cv universal), accent (on/off) , slide (on/off) aka portamento, cut off frequency (variable 128 steps).

e.g. midi channel #1 cv channel A

aux 1 connect to accent controller 004 foot controller (or 064 pedal hold aka juno 106) aux 2 connect to slide controller 001 modulation (will effect sounds on master keyboard)

midi channel #2 cv channel B

aux 1 connect to filter (cut off frequency) controller 006 data entry msb 000 to 127 variable.

these controllers appear on some keyboards so live control can be activated whenever.

any controllers can be used but make sure you think about it as changing all you sequences latter to fit your new keyboard or system is time consuming.

other controllers built in are trigger / pitch bend / vl / af (for more complicated cv use wasp port)

controller threshold

000 to 127 or offset not important on accent or slide e.g. use 10 as this is either a value of 0 or 127 i.e. off or on.

for the cof control 16 is the sort of resting place so use a value below this.

triggers

10 note priority / hi note priority / next note (chosen on the cv menu). we use hi note most of the time for doing overlapping slides.

trigger / retrigger we use for hi note ...retrigger and for 10 note trigger as the attack on low notes is slow.

so cof control is on another midi channel and is variable but when not in use the 303 holds the last value so always turn controllers off or as in the cof case return to its sweet spot e.g. 16 as explained above. turn accent slide off when not used and return pitch bend to 0000.

midi control of decay is difficult as it depends on slide accent cof controllers or rather if the gates are still held hi or open. in general to get pattern emulation exact match up the intervals per bar of your sequencer to that of the notes of the internal sequencer on the 303.

Use next note and retrigger for slides with continue = start for sync24.
