Lesson 6 How to generate chords... NOTE.... * DENOTES WHERE THINGS CAN BE FOUND ON YOUR SEQUENCERTable of Contents
What is a chord ... ?[ A chord is simply more than one note played at the same time, to sound good the notes must be in Key. See the scales chart ROLAND_TB303_GUIDE_P8.htm ] Back to TopWhere can I find translate on my sequencer... ?[ Just mark the notes or bars you wish to translate up/down, or mark (select all) and drag ]
Back to TopMajor & Minor... ?[ Major chords are translated from the root note (the key or scale note) by 4 then 3 notes so the Major chord of the key of C is C add 4 = E add 3 = G C E G Minor chords are translated from the root note by 3 then 4 notes so key of C is C add 3 = D# add 4 = G C D# G ] Back to TopDiminished & Augmented... ?[ Same as above Diminished is add 3 then add 3 C D# F# Augmented is add 4 then add 4 C E G# ] Back to TopSevenths... ?[ Bit more complicated as there are several types of sevenths Dominant seventh is 2 semitones to the left of root so for C this is A# this chord is then called C7 Major seventh is added to major and minor chords only and is 1 semitone left of root so C is B this chord is then called maj7 Diminished seventh is added to diminished chords only and is 3 semitones to the left of root so C is A this chord is called dim7
] Back to TopExample ... ?[Key of C is C D E F G A B C is the root E is the 3rd G is the 5th so Cmaj is C E G these are the bass notes Cmaj7 translates as well C maj7 is B as the root now becomes a seventh (1 to the left from C) so we have E the 3rd G the 5th and B the seventh ] Back to TopBack
