What is sync24 ... ?

Please note this information is for pre midi equipment (before 1983) you need a midi to sync24 converter box

[  Sync24 was used, before midi came along, to keep each pattern playing piece of equipment in time with each other. Mainly just 2 pieces of equipment one master and one slave, sync24 out to sync24 in. Sync24 is 24 timing signals a bar related to the masters tempo (BPM). Sync24 uses a HiFi 180° (180 degree) 5 pin DIN. (Do not use a midi lead). ]

Where can I find sync on my sequencer... ?

[Sync24 will work with your sequencer as long as you have song position pointer. This is related to start/stop/continue.

On a typical sequencer go to options then synchronization

Turn midi clock to on eg MIDI out using your midi card. The sync source will be internal]

Why is it not in time... ?

[Most sequencers and equipment using sync24 need you to reset them (reposition to first bar). So on your equipment do the reset function and if your sync24 out box handles song position pointer you can use start/stop/continue just like a tape transport system.

Unfortunately most sequencers reset to the beginning of the track this is particularly annoying when doing overdubs as you have to play through all of the track before you get to the punch in.

If it is still not working go back to basics and check your midi to sync24 box set up this must have midi in sync24 out set to on and if possible start/stop/continue set to on. Check the leads, check the midi channels check sequencer setup.]

How  do I control the sync... ?

[ If you have start/stop/continue control then you can control everything from the sequencer. Tempo Tsig Sync Divide.

When using sync24 out to sync24 in press reset on the master and choose your pattern, then press reset on the slave and choose your pattern. Set the tempo and press play on the master both should be in sync.

This method is ok for tracks that don't go on too long as sync24 has a tendency to drift, the timing won't be as good as your sequencer which is always correcting itself.

How can I use sync divide... ?

[Once again use a midi to sync box hooked up to your sequencer. This time send sync divide information from your sequencer on a separate midi channel. See the link for the divide list
