How do I import a .MID... ?

[Go to file section of your sequencer scan down the list to import and click. Then choose the import option either SMF (standard MIDI file, format 0, format 1 or in some cases with demix. the sequence will then appear on the screen for you to save as a normal file.

If the file appears as one track you need to use the demix facility to break it up into channels.

If nothing plays on your midi equipment then you need to check if midi out/thru is on and also whether you have the correct port eg external midi instead of your sound card.]

Why doesn't it split the file up... ?

[You need to DEMIX or EXPLODE by channel so that each MIDI channel is separated. This can cause problems for editing so you may have to use a filter to further split controllers, sysx, pitch etc.]

How to manage the track ... ?

[This is more difficult as it can be done several ways. Split at locators, split at markers or split and copy with cut & copy.

These options are found under the structure heading of your sequencer or edit.]

How do I select sounds ... ?

[Changing instruments on each channel can be done several ways, most people use SYSX System Exclusive patches to set up the voice on their synths/modules this means you only have to remember what midi channel you used for each voice/instrument.

This may be too difficult for beginners so let's look at our options, PGM programmed change this is good for selecting the voice on the midi channel/instrument but needs to be written down so you don't forget.

Check under options/midi setup/system whether you are sending info to the midi port or the sound card.]

Example ... ?

[Using your sound card tunes/Backmid.mid

If you have your speakers on you should be able to hear this simple track playing.]
